Obagi’s Saypha ChIQ Wins FDA Approval for Cheek Augmentation

Last fall, Obagi Medical officially entered the injectable space with the launch of Saypha MagIQ, its FDA-approved hyaluronic acid filler for moderate to severe nasolabial folds. The move marked a major evolution for the skin-care giant, putting it in direct competition with established filler portfolios like RHA, Restylane and Juvéderm.

This week, the brand expanded that portfolio again. Obagi announced FDA approval of Saypha ChIQ, a hyaluronic acid filler designed for cheek augmentation and correction of midface contour deficiencies in patients over 21. The new approval makes ChIQ the second injectable under Obagi’s growing aesthetics umbrella, further signaling the brand’s ambitions to become a more comprehensive player in the category.

Like MagIQ, ChIQ comes out of Obagi’s partnership with Austria-based Croma-Pharma, the global aesthetics company behind the Saypha filler line. While the brand may feel newer to U.S. injectors, Croma has been in the injectable space for decades, with more than 130 million syringes distributed across 80 countries.

At the core of ChIQ is Croma’s MACRO Core Technology, a specialized hyaluronic acid matrix designed for greater lift and structural support. The result is a filler better suited for creating shape, contour and projection in the cheeks and midface.
