Hello hello everyone! I hope all is well what a summer we are having right?! these heatwaves have been tewwww much!
Anyways I’m back with another salon experience! Ive been visiting natural hair salons over the last few years and sharing my experiences to help you decide.
It was time for my routine trim and I decided to head to Hype Coiffure in Battersea for a wash, treatment & go and trim. The treatment and go service is described as a deep condition and finish with a curl aid.
I arrived a bit earlier than my appointment but it didn’t take long for the stylist I booked Kim to come over. She explained the treatment & go service meant my hair would be left wet afterwards so I decided to go for a blowdry instead. I thought this service meant a wash & go or a twist out but I would sit under the dryer. I was slightly disappointed because I wanted to try something different but a blowdry & my go to flat twists was fine.
Another staff washed my hair. It was OK but I wished my hair was detangled before and she focused on my scalp a bit more. I’m not sure of her experience level but I always ask anyone who washes my hair to tell me my strand thickness and she kept saying I definitely don’t have fine hair( I do). She used the affirm scalp therapy shampoo which I’ve never used or heard of before but I did like it. Kim recommended the rehydrate treatment because my hair was dry. For this treatment I had to sit under the dryer for about 15 mins uncovered. My hair wasn’t really detangled after washing or when the treatment was applied. She combed through lightly but it wasn’t detangled.
I sat under the dryer for about 25mins I think, I did feel forgotten so I called her over. My hair felt softer but nothing extraordinary. I had to wait around for about 10 mins after washing before she blowdried my hair. She applied the wella thermal image, proceeded to divide my hair in 4 sections then tried to blowdry! And of course it was difficult because my hair wasn’t detangled and she tried to do it in larger sections! I asked her to split the section in two. Another stylist asked her to use a paddle brush to stretch the hair more. The whole blowdry portion got on my nerves sigh.
Then to add to that I had forgotten I tried to trim out some single strand knots but I must have cut off more than I thought on one side because she told me one side of my hair was shorter and I was so confused loool oh Sarah! Moral of the story is dont do this or at least do both sides loool

After blowdry, I waited around again before Kim started my trim. Since the blowdry didn’t stretch my hair that well. She did it again but there was no protection. Sigh. My hair felt brittle because I felt it kept snapping off. I always ask for a before and after pic for trims as I like to see progress but I didnt like the pictures sigh. At this point I was so irritated and tired I just wanted to be done and leave. I think my last trim didn’t take off all my damage ends because she said my ends where a bit damaged. My last trim was 18 April so I was only off by 2 weeks, not enough to explain the amount of damage. I always ask to cut off what is necessary, I would rather health than length. So for this trim we did have to cut off a bit more and I was just a little bit ticked because I’m trying to retain length! Sigh
Then she went in again with the blowdryer without protection. My hair was flat twisted and I left promptly.

I washed my hair after 5 days and as I was detangling I noticed some of my curls just looked a bit looser and elongated. Not quite heat damaged and I know after a few treatments it will bounce back but I’m not surprised with the amount of times it was blowdried after the initial heat protection application!
Overall thoughts
I did not enjoy my experience there. I didn’t like the blow dry and I was slightly disappointed that the treatment & go service didn’t mean a wash & go. Its been a long time since I waited around in between services at a salon. Then there was a argument between another patron and one of the stylists as well.
On the other hand I was complimented on my coloring skills lmao. Honestly when I dyed my hair I didn’t think the colour would come out looking like it is because it was regular old box dye( creme of nature) no bleach and it was a virgin application. I do really like this colour on me though so I will definitely do it again. I want some dimension so im thinking to either re do with a highlighting cap or maybe growing this out and going to the salon.
Anyway, it was a disappointing experience. Ive know about this salon since my internship days at Black Hair & Beauty wayy back in 2018 so to finally get here and have this experience was disappointing.
I think its time I went back to my go to Maison Style. They’ve now moved into a bigger place so I think the wait time may have improved.
I hope you have a great summer! Catch you later
