This Physician-Led Derm Group Is Elevating Patient Care

Finding the right dermatologist can feel complicated. The options are broader than ever, solo practices, medspas and a growing number of large dermatology groups, each promising expertise and access to the latest treatments. As aesthetic medicine expands, so does the question of how to find the right kind of care.

Among the many models emerging, Platinum Dermatology Partners is one group exploring how to balance scale with personalization. “We’ve always been a physician-driven company,” says Michael Pennington, CEO of Platinum Dermatology Partners. “With our Aesthetic Research Committee, we’re applying the same rigor to aesthetic medicine that has long guided our medical dermatology decisions.”

A Collaborative Approach

At the center of this effort is the Aesthetic Research Committee (ARC), chaired by San Diego dermatologist Sabrina Fabi, MD. The committee evaluates new treatments, reviews research and helps determine which technologies and products are introduced across practices. “The Aesthetic Research Committee was formed to bring a consensus on how best to elevate the aesthetic treatments offered across all Platinum locations,” Dr. Fabi explains. “Rooted in innovation and research, we’ve made great strides to make collective decisions for the advancement of our patients.”

Rather than making decisions based on trends or price, Dr. Fabi says the committee weighs new treatments by their research, innovation and the level of training required to deliver them safely.

She adds that the ARC has also become a hub for knowledge sharing across the network. “It’s a forum to disseminate information on more than 100 clinical trials currently taking place at multiple Platinum locations,” she notes. “We leverage the expertise of our physicians through webinars and training sessions to keep everyone up to date on emerging drugs and devices.”

Consistency Patients Can Trust

In today’s world of aesthetic treatments, having access to the most effective brands that truly resonate with patients is key. That’s part of why Platinum works closely with trusted companies like Allergan, Galderma and Revance — the names behind many of the most recognized injectables and skin-care products.

The goal isn’t exclusivity, says CEO Michael Pennington, but consistency. “Our goal is to build an injectable portfolio that meets the needs of our patients, based on their physician or provider’s guidance,” he explains. “We do more business with companies that share our passion for innovation and high-quality patient care.”

Chris Murray, senior vice president of aesthetics, adds that these relationships go beyond products. “If we support our partners for the right reasons, and they support us with resources like training and business planning, we both win,” he says. “Ultimately, the patient wins most of all.”

This approach also helps ensure that Platinum’s providers are trained on the latest technologies as soon as they become available. With more than 100 clinical trials underway across its network, many of its physicians are among the first to gain hands-on experience with emerging treatments, keeping patient care current and informed.

Why Training Matters

Behind every good result is a provider who’s been trained to the same high standard. At Platinum practices, once a new treatment or technology is approved by the Aesthetic Research Committee, providers across the country receive updated training and education. That includes live workshops, digital learning tools and small-group demonstrations that focus on technique and safety.

Those sessions are led by physicians, including Dr. Sabrina Fabi, Mary Fleischli, MD and national aesthetic experts Dr. Shino Bay Aguilera, Dr. Alexander Rivkin and Dr. David Saadat. The goal is simple: whether a patient is in Miami or Dallas, they can expect a confident provider who’s up to date on the latest procedures.

“Narrowing our focus allows us to train and support providers in a way that’s both rigorous and practical,” says Dr. Fabi. “When everyone learns from the same foundation, patients benefit from consistent, high-quality care no matter which office they visit.”

Pennington adds that the group’s consistency starts with the doctors themselves. “We’re very honest about our selectivity,” he says. “We choose exceptional physicians and support them with systems that help them deliver care at the highest level.”

For patients, that structure translates to confidence and predictability. “We’re not trying to be the biggest; we’re trying to be the most effective,” Pennington says. “Our model allows physicians to collaborate and use our collective experience to improve care.”
