Sol de Janeiro Debuts Its First-Ever Jelly Perfume Balm

Fragrance is moving beyond the traditional spray. From hair perfumes to skin scents and oil roll-ons, the category is expanding in new directions—and Sol de Janeiro is entering the mix. Debuting February 9 at soldejaneiro.com and Ulta Beauty, the brand’s new Jelly Perfume Balm ($26) marks its first foray into solid fragrance, offering a portable, mess-free way to experience its cult-favorite Cheirosa scents.

The Jelly Perfume Balm reimagines fragrance in a more wearable, on-the-go format; one you can swipe onto skin instead of spraying in a gym locker room or the back of a cab. Powered by concentrated fragrance oils rather than alcohol, the translucent balm melts into skin, leaving a long-lasting scent. The launch includes three of the brand’s bestselling, beachy-gourmand scents—Cheirosa 62, Cheirosa 68 and Cheirosa 40—each housed in a swipeable format.

That emphasis on ritual—and self-expression—was central to the development process. Unlike traditional perfumes that live on a vanity, the Jelly Perfume Balm is meant to travel with you, turning fragrance into a lived-in experience rather than a finishing touch. “It’s a fragrance that feels lived-in and personal,” explains Jocelyn Axelrod, VP of Global Product Marketing at Sol de Janeiro, “which is aligned with how our community uses scent as a form of self-expression.”

And the fragrance, the brand stresses, is meant to be noticed. Solid fragrances are often assumed to be lighter or shorter-wearing, but Sol de Janeiro set out to challenge that perception. “Jelly Perfume Balm is alcohol-free and made with premium fragrance oils,” says Axelrod, adding that “it melts into the skin and delivers a more concentrated scent experience.”

“We’re very excited about creating this new format and experience for our consumers and wanted to ensure the scent and tactile experience were just right,” Axelrod says. “Our Jelly Perfume Balms will launch in our core fragrances, Cheirosa 62, 68 and 40, so we formulated and reformulated with extra care until we got each scent to come through just like our cult-favorite Perfume Mists—making them perfectly layerable and deliciously familiar to our Perfume Mist fans.”

That same attention carried through to the balm’s texture. “In terms of application, we also wanted to ensure a super seamless swipe, with a non-sticky feel and worked on the formula until we got that perfectly touchable texture so you can swipe freely, opening up a concentrated, irresistible scent,” she adds.

Importantly, the balm is meant to layer easily with the brand’s iconic body mists. “The balm doesn’t replace the mist; it enhances it,” she notes. “It’s designed to heighten scent, amplify longevity and offer ample opportunities to customize your scent with our Perfume Mist portfolio.”

The result is a fragrance that feels modern, intuitive and undeniably joyful.
