Want a look that translates from white sands and crystal beaches to uptown brunch day vibes? Introducing the white gold blond hair trend that is currently trending. White gold blond is on the warmer side of platinum and it’s perfect for summer.
What is white gold blond?
While platinum hair typically comes to mind when you think of ultra-light blond shades, white gold blond has subtle but serious differences.
“White gold is more of a bright, glowy platinum, whereas traditional platinum has more of a silvery/cool tone to it,” explains colorist, hairstylist and Wella Professionals brand ambassador Zach Mesquit.
So, think platinum, but ever so slightly warm-toned. The result is a blond so bright it’s almost white, a striking choice for summertime that feels both beachy and elegant.
Who should go for white gold blond?
The vibe is very old money goes yachting, and definitely appeals to an expensive look.
“Personally, I feel like this tone has a more bubbly, energetic feel to it—more of a bright, beachy vibe, but elevated,” Mesquit explains. “When I think of beachy hair, I think of a more lived-in look that’s low maintenance and has a lot of dimension. White gold still looks expensive and high maintenance, but doesn’t have the edginess of a more silver-toned blond.”
“People with an olive-toned complexion tend to pull off this look very well,” Mesquit adds.
How to get the look
Because this look is so light, essentially a platinum, you’ll want to take it step-by-step with your salon stylist. And keep in mind that white gold blond may not be achievable in just one session.
“It’s very important that the hair is lifted to a clean level 10 to achieve this color, so it’s a must to ask for it to be as light as possible,” Mesquit explains. “I would highly recommend bringing in an inspiration picture. Because there is a lot that’s left up to interpretation when it comes to blond tones, having a picture to go off of will make sure you and the colorist are on the same page.”
And let’s be real, getting to this color isn’t going to be a walk in the park for your hair. So, hair health is critical to keeping your strands healthy and strong in your new white gold blond.
“I would recommend using Wella Professionals Ultimate Repair Miracle Hair Rescue ($75) to maintain the health and strength of the hair, because achieving an ultra-white blond look like this will require heavy processing,” Mesquit recommends. “Processing can also leave the hair feeling a little dry/frizzy, so I would recommend Wella Professionals Ultimate Smooth Shampoo ($35) and Conditioner ($35) to keep the hair soft and shiny at home.”
