Today, cult-favorite brand Jones Road Beauty launched its highly anticipated Everyday Sunscreen ($42), which we first learned about nearly a year ago and had been eagerly waiting to try. The brand’s first-ever SPF in a formulation that also feels texturally different than its Tinted Moisturizer, this product has been in founder Bobbi Brown’s queue for a long time. Here’s the scoop on the brand-new broad-spectrum mineral sunscreen, available today.
The Benefits of This Mineral Sunscreen
“Everyday Sunscreen took many years to finalize,” says Brown. “I wanted to make sure that not only was it effective, but that it also paired incredibly well with makeup. It needed to look natural on all skin types, and could not leave a dry or sticky finish. Once we found the ideal formula, we developed a shade range to make sure it worked for all skin tones. This is my new ideal base for everyday protection, and works perfectly with all of my Jones Road makeup.”
Smooth and lightweight, the sunscreen contains 15.9 percent zinc oxide, which makes it a mineral-based formula that creates a physical barrier on the skin to shield it from UV rays. The texture doesn’t have the same blurring feel I associate with many of the primer-like sunscreens on the market (this one feels somewhat drier after it sets), but makeup does layer nicely on top. Shake the bottle before applying to make sure the liquid formula is mixed well (this is the case with nearly all liquid sunscreens).

The Shade Range
The brand sent me the Untinted version, as well as shades Sandy and Peachy, though there are two others in the range. The Untinted version is very white and does take bit of blending to minimize the white cast, even on my light skin. Therefore, I’m glad the additional shades are available to minimize that cast and allow the formula to work on a larger range of skin tones. Sandy is a yellow hue for light to light-medium skin tones; Peachy is recommended for light-medium or medium tones; Golden is great for medium-dark or dark skin tones; and Apricot was created for deep skin tones. Though I would have assumed I’d be Sandy shade, I actually prefer the Peachy hue on my skin for summertime.

The New Daily Brush
Jones Road is also launching a new brush, The Daily Brush ($42), to accompany the sunscreen, though you can also use it to apply any cream or liquid products in your routine. “I saw that moms were applying their kids’ sunscreen with a brush, so I thought why not make a brush to go with our sunscreen,” says Brown. While I love the brush application concept, and I too apply my toddlers’ SPF with a brush, this particular brush isn’t my favorite for sunscreen. I noticed a lot of product still on the brush after applying, which makes me worry that the user isn’t getting the full amount of sunscreen required for adequate protection. I prefer a denser brush where the sunscreen sits on top and applies more evenly and thoroughly.
