Dry Shampoo Is the Secret to This Perfectly Messy NYFW Hair

LoveShackFancy is known for its signature beachy glamour and joyously feminine aesthetic, but the brand’s Spring 2026 collection, deputing at New York Fashion Week, is adding an element of nuance. “This season, we’re moving away from the signature ‘beach glam’ and stepping into a mood that is more sultry and romantic,” head hairstylist Brent Lawler tells us exclusively. “The look is centered on a cohesive, lived-in texture that tells a story.”

“It’s the LoveShackFancy girl who loves a party, but equally loves her poetry—the kind of girl who wakes up in the morning with the bow that she had on last night and puts a ballet flat on while running out the door to get a coffee. It’s messy, but it’s not dirty,” says Lawler, noting that Batiste’s dry shampoo was the perfect product to help strike this delicate balance. “Her hair has vitality and still feels beautiful with a kind of lived-in texture, and that’s why it’s the perfect dry shampoo look.”

How To Get the Look

Upon arrival, Lawler tips the models’ heads over and puts Batiste Original Powder Dry Shampoo ($17) into their roots to refresh hair and add substantial volume. For brunettes, he opts for Batiste Original Powder Dark Dry Shampoo ($17). To help add texture and achieve that lived-in look, he uses an extra big curling iron—Bio Ionic Long Barrel Curling Iron 1.5 inch ($163)—to target areas that need just a tiny bend—no structured curls in sight.

Using Goody Ponytail Holders ($11) in the same color as the models’ hair, Lawler grabs pieces, pulls them into a ponytail and secures the tie about 2 inches higher than where the final look should sit. “Once secured, gently drag the hair tie down. This creates a beautiful, loose texture at the crown and gives the base that ‘slept-in’ romantic feel,” he says.

“This is the secret to the look. It’s not a traditional braid or a fishtail, but a series of folds. Take three pieces of hair: one from each side and one from the middle. Cross them over each other loosely. As you work, pull the sections outward to create width,” directs Lawler. “The result should look like a braid that has started to unravel and ‘drop’ throughout the night.” Finally, Lawler goes back in with some more Batiste Original Powder Dry Shampoo, targeting the roots and ends and adding just a touch to the mid-lengths. He recommends “rolling and pushing the powder into the ends so you get separation, texture and all these beautiful flyaway romantic bits.”
