“Hydrostretch therapy is a relatively new treatment that aims to improve skin elasticity and hydration,” explains national telehealth dermatologist Anna Chacon, MD. “It typically involves the use of specialized techniques and products that enhance the skin’s moisture content and stimulate collagen production, leading to a more youthful and firm appearance. The exact methods can vary, but they often include topical applications and possibly microneedling or other minimally invasive techniques.”

Most of the time, it involves delivering hyaluronic acid to the skin.

“The term Hydrostretch therapy has started to surface, most commonly tied to stabilized hyaluronic acid injectables like Viscoderm Hydrobooster,” explains New York dermatologist Julie Russak, MD. “At Russak Dermatology Clinic, however, we don’t view it as a trend. We see it as a supportive tool—one that fits within a broader, regenerative approach to long-term skin health.”

Viscoderm is an injectable, but not really a filler. The focus is on improving skin quality and elasticity, rather than on volume.

Hydrostretch Therapy Offers Multiple Benefits

So, Hydrostretch therapies (like Viscoderm) fall into the skin-rejuvenation category of treatments, a bit like laser and microneedling.

“It targets overall skin texture and elasticity,” Dr. Chacon says. “It can be a suitable option for patients looking for a noninvasive method to improve skin quality without altering facial contours.”

According to Dr. Russak, it accomplishes this skin rejuvenation in two ways. “When delivered into the dermis, hyaluronic acid does more than hydrate—it sends biochemical cues to fibroblasts, the skin’s structural support cells, to stimulate collagen, elastin and extracellular matrix production,” she explains. “In essence, it helps the skin ‘wake up’ from within. At the same time, the treatment’s subtle stretching effect on fine dynamic lines—especially around the mouth and eyes—acts as a mechanical signal to fibroblasts. This stimulates tissue remodeling and supports improved tone, elasticity and skin texture.”

Hydration Is Key for Healthy Skin

And of course, this therapy focuses on hydration. And hydrated skin is critical for healthy skin.

“Well-hydrated skin looks plumper, smoother and is more resilient, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles,” says Dr. Chacon. “Adequate hydration supports the skin’s barrier function, helping to protect against environmental damage and irritation.”

As experts see increasing demand for hydrostretch therapy, they’re examining how best to incorporate treatments into an overall approach. “Hydrostretch is never used in isolation,” Dr. Russak explains. “In our practice, it’s part of the personalized protocol that may include functional health testing, hormone and nutrient optimization, neuromodulators and biostimulatory technologies like polynucleotides and exosomes and regenerative molecule injections.”
