Audrey Hepburn’s Son Shares Her Take on Wrinkles and Plastic Surgery

Audrey Hepburn is one of the most timeless beauties Hollywood has ever seen. I spent many years of my adolescence with her photos staring back at me from my bedroom walls as I admired her features and her grace. Hepburn’s eldest son, Sean Hepburn Ferrer, recently published an authorized biography with co-author Wendy Holden called Intimate Audrey. The book features dozens of interesting tidbits from the star’s life, among them her take on plastic surgery and wrinkles.

“Any suggestion of plastic surgery was anathema to her, as she honored the history of every line on her face,” wrote Ferrer and Holden in the autobiography. People reports that Ferrer went on to recall a time when John Isaac shot photos of Hepburn during a UNICEF trip and offered to clean up the lines on the actress’ face, to which she replied “Don’t you dare touch any one of those wrinkles; I earned every single one of them.”

Even during her lifetime, Hepburn was known for her minimalist, natural approach to beauty. In a 1970s Vogue article Hepburn detailed her beauty routine which focused on plenty of sleep to make her “completely happy,” minimal makeup and fragrant baths.

“I’ve never used much make-up. Only on my eyes, and I do them more or less as I always have… black liner and mascara, dark-brown eyebrow pencil…And I still use a very, very pale pink lipstick,” she told the outlet at the time. “No base…No foundation. It isn’t a question of wanting to look the same; I prefer an unmade-up look simply because it’s better for me.”
