What I Love About the Jones Road Lip Recharge Balm

Jones Road’s Lip Recharge comes in unassuming packaging. There’s an exposed section of the tube that shows the shade inside, so you know exactly what you’re grabbing. The formula itself is anything but. The first time I twisted off the cap, I was surprised to find a metal applicator. A small squeeze dispenses plenty of product, and a little goes a long way. The texture is silky and—overused phrase aside—it glides on like butter. There’s a subtle vanilla-mint scent, and it stays put without ever feeling uncomfortable.

This formula really lives up to its claims of refreshing, smoothing and hydrating. The cooling metal applicator and a blend of menthol, peppermint and spearmint oils give it that fresh, slightly tingly feel, while shea butter and a blend of emollients delivers hydration.

Lactic acid, a gentle exfoliating acid, helps smooth texture, and vitamin E adds antioxidant support to help protect lips from things like dryness, pollution and general environmental exposure. It also includes a peptide (palmitoyl tripeptide-1), which may help subtly improve the look of fine lines with consistent use. That said, most of the immediate payoff comes from the hydrating base, which gives lips a smooth, slightly fuller-looking finish.
