The Best Hair Colors for November, According to Experts

As fall settles in, the season’s colors become more prominent all around us. By November, shades of gold, mellow orange and deep brown start showing up not just in nature, but on hair color moodboards, too. “This time of year, the top hair colors mimic the changes in nature and lean into variations of the traditional seasonal shades, says Jahlena, a professional colorist at H2Salon. Whether brunette, blond or red, the vibe is all about toasty tones that can give your color a cozy feel.

“This fall, we’re seeing a shift toward dimensional warmth with colors that feel comfortable, yet expensive and rooted in natural beauty,” says celebrity colorist Min Kim. These shades are far from one-dimensional. According to Kim, this season’s colors feature a tonal shift rather than strict color placement. “Think face-framing balayage that brightens your features or rooty hues that create a seamless grow-out,” she says. The common thread: richness that keeps color effortless and low-maintenance—an ideal combination for the colder months ahead.

Below, the experts share the best hair colors for November and their tips for getting them just right.

November’s Top Hair Color Trends

Espresso

Dark brunette is a popular fall hair color. However, this season’s version delivers a bolder impact with rich, deep tones. “Espresso uses tone-on-tone dimension to add depth to a standard brunette,” says Kim. Instead of a flat brown base, it features ribbons of mocha and chestnut, which, as Kim explains, should be painted through the hair starting mid-length.

Copper Brunette

Copper has evolved from bright, fiery tones to softer, more wearable shades. This brunette-based hue is the ideal color moving into November. According to Kim, achieving the look is fairly easy if you’re already sporting brown hair. “Brunette is the foundation that allows copper to shine,” says Kim. “It creates an amber glow that adds warmth to the color.”

Cherrywood

Cherrywood is the middle ground between espresso and copper brunette. It blends dark brown with rich red tones to create an effortless color. “Deep variations of brown are very big right now,” says Ibraheem. Mixing them with rich pigments like wine or cranberry gives them a seasonal feel, perfect for the cooler months. For natural brunettes, a cherrywood brown feels trendy without straying far from a comforting color.

Warm Wheat

If you’re itching to lighten your color, consider this warm and wheat hue. A blend of brown and soft shades of blond, it’s one of the most flattering ways to embrace a lighter color this season. “The beauty of bronde is that it mixes cool and neutral tones,” says Ibraheem. To keep it from getting ashy, she recommends adopting a hydrating routine. “The cooler months can be drying, so it’s important to prioritize moisture retention to keep those cuticles sealed.”

Honey Almond

“For blondes transitioning out of summer brightness, this tone bridges the seasons,” says Kim. It’s soft and buttery but takes on a cozier feel with honey-almond undertones. Kim explains that this gives the color a luminous glow and slightly deeper appearance, which pairs nicely against the richer textures of the season. For weekly care, she suggests using a nourishing mask, such as L’Oréal Professionnel Vitamino Color Spectrum Mask, to hydrate and restore shine.

Caramel Glaze

When you’re not ready to commit to a new color, highlights are the best way to refresh your look. Caramel is the shade of the season and works well with almost every base hair color and skin tone. It livens up the hair and adds a touch of golden warmth. To keep it vibrant, Ibraheem suggests opting for a demi-glaze during your appointment and adding a conditioning mask to your hair-care routine.
